Light Up the Basin

Christmas TreeCelebrate the arrival of the Christmas season with the lighting up of the Copper Basin on November 25, 2011. The cities of McCaysville, Georgia and Copperhill, Tennessee have coordinated their festive lighting ceremonies to kick off the holidays. The evening will begin at 6 PM with a tree lighting at the United Community Bank in McCaysville, Georgia. It will then proceed along with carolers to the next stop at the Copperhill, Tennessee branch of BB & T where another tree lighting ceremony will be held. On to Miners Park for the lighting of the Copperhill Yule tree and last but not least is the lighting of the wreath on the Old Steel Bridge.

This event coincides with the opening of the Copper Basin Christmas Village where there will be festivities going on every Friday and Saturday evenings starting at 5:30 PM through December 17, 2011. Stores will be open late and carolers will be singing, not to mention Santa will be in town located at Christmas is Here.

2011 Halloween Festivities

Halloween SpiderDowntown Copperhill, Tennessee/McCaysville, Georgia will be celebrating Halloween on October 29, 2011 beginning at 4:15 PM with a costume contest and parade followed by trick or treating. Dress up in your best Halloween costume and compete for prizes. Registration begins at 4:15 PM in the parking lot of the First Baptist Church of McCaysville. Prizes will be awarded by age groups, with other prizes for best group costume, best dressed pet, best float and more. You must be registered to compete. 1st place medals will be given to winners in each age group. Judging will begin at 4:30 PM in the church parking lot. Winners will be announced at 4:50 PM and will head the parade that will start at 5 PM. The parade will head down Toccoa Avenue/Ocoee Street and end at BB & T Bank. Children will be able to collect treats from downtown merchants after the parade from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM. Don’t miss your chance to compete for some prizes in the annual Scream Contest that will take place at 6 PM outside the United Community Bank in McCaysville.

Night Train to Santa’s Village

Santa ClausEnjoy a festive evening aboard the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway as you travel to Santa’s Village in Copperhill/McCaysville. The evening excursion leaves the Blue Ridge train depot on December 17 and December 18, 2010 at 4:30 PM. Take in all the beautiful scenery as you travel for an hour aboard the train until you reach Santa’s Village located on a deck overlooking the Toccoa/Ocoee River in Copperhill/McCaysville. You will have plenty of time to wander through the town to see all the Christmas decorations, visit with Santa, and have a nice meal in one of the local eateries or even do a little shopping before boarding the train for the return trip at 8:30 PM.  Contact the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway at 706-632-9833 for more information and details on this trip.

Light up the Basin

Christmas TreeCome one, come all and join the Christmas festivities of lighting up Copper Basin on November 26, 2010 starting at 6 PM. The evening begins at the McCaysville branch of United Community Bank where the Mayor helps to light up the official McCaysville  Christmas tree. Then follow the Christmas carolers as they proceed toward the Copperhill branch of BB & T where another tree lighting ceremony will take place. The procession continues toward Miners Park where the Mayor will help light Copperhill’s Yule tree. Last stop in the lighting ceremony is the lighting of the wreath on the Old Steel Bridge.
